Book

The title of the book I selected is “Life lessons”. In this book two experts of death and dying         teach us about the mystery of life and living. The authors of the book are Elisabeth Kubler Ross and David Kessler. This book was published by Scribner. It was printed in 2000 A.D. in New York, London and et al. I selected this book seemed very inspiring to me. The title itself was an eye catcher.
“Learning lessons is a little like reaching maturity. You’re not suddenly more happy, wealthy, or powerful, but you understand the world around you better, and you’re at peace with yourself. Learning life’s lessons is not about making your life perfect, but about seeing life as it was meant to be. As one man shared, “ I now delight in the imperfections of life.”

Research Project Calculator

SCSU library facilitates us, SCSU students with a research project calculator. To get into this calculator one can either create an account or get started right away by creating as assignment from the given templates. To create an assignment one has to provide the assignment title, set a starting date and the ending day. Then the student can choose from one of the assignment templates.

To create a research project there are 8 major steps that needs to be completed. The first step is to understand the research project and select the topic. This step instructs us to learn about the early stages of the research process and brainstorm topics and conduct preliminary research to gather background information. The second step is “Find and select the articles, books and websites”. This step guides us to keep careful notes and search for scholarly journals, websites and library catalog for books and other media. The third step is to conduct background information. This step advises us to explore the topic and access resources through the library webpage. The fourth step instructs us to focus on the topic and write a thesis statement. The fifth step is to critically read and evaluate the resources whereas the sixth step instructs us to develop structure, organize sections and write the first draft. The step seven involves revising and incorporating research content and citing sources. The last step is proof reading, obtaining feedback and finalizing paper and bibliography.

These were the steps instructed by the research project calculator of SCSU library for writing a research project. Moreover, this calculator also has a guide for oral presentation. The instructions provided by this calculator could be a great help for the students writing their projects.

Comparing the Author's reasons to go to Nepal

After going through pages 6 and 7, it seemed like Nepal was simply a random place he chose to get started for the world trip. He apparently decided to go to Nepal so that he would have stories to tell.  He wanted to create an impression that he has a desire to help orphans in need.

According to the pages, 53-55 the author was having a hard time letting go the orphanage and children there.  He seems to be really attached to the children there. He seemed to have understood the pain his mother felt when she bade him goodbye. Moreover, the three month with the children made him love them like his own. This was the reason why he decides to return within a year.

Comparing his initial reasons with the later reasons, I noticed significant changes in the perspective of the author. At first he picked Nepal simply because he had to pick a place to start with, but later he wanted to return to Nepal because he feels attached to it. Initially he imagined himself to go around the orphanage and merely spend 3 months. However, after those three months, he wanted to return because he loved the children whom he called “orphans’ three months ago.

Here's the score card:

I think all three of them were clear on what they wanted to say. Their posts were pretty engaging and error free compared to others.
